Applications for the 5th International Management and Indus-trial Engineering Summit now open

Organized by the Sabancı University Industrial Engineering Society, the 5th International Management and Industrial Engineering Summit (IMIS) will take place between April 28 and May 1.  Applications for participation are now open.

The theme of the summit this year will be “Business World in 360” and Indus-trial Engineering and Management students from various universities will come together with representatives of businesses and universities on an international platform.  The summit is open to students of Management, Economics and Indus-trial Engineering, and participants from the related business areas.

Bringing together Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering on a common platform, the 5th International Management and Industrial Engineering Summit (IMIS) will be held by the Sabancı University Industrial Engineering Society between April 28 and May 1.  The summit aims to create a platform for high-level executives from Turkey and abroad, and Industrial Engineering and Management students to interact with each other.

The theme for this year’s summit will be “Business World in 360,” and will discuss top-ics including Marketing, Sales, Finance, Supply Chain, Consultancy and Entrepreneur-ship, featuring Unilever Turkey VP of Sales and Customer Development Cem Tarık Yüksel, Özyeğin University President Erhan Erkut, professor of cardiology and com-munication advisor Hakan Karpuz, Publicis Modem General Manager Can Saraçoğlu, Evyap Marketing Director Burç Üstün, Pernord Ricard CEO Selçuk Tümay, Finans-bank Private Banking Manager and Galatasaray University professor Murat Sağ-man, Garanti Yatırım CEO Metin Ar, Ford Otosan Field Operations Director Özgür Yücetürk, Eczacıbaşı Girişim Supply Chain Director Ahmet Gürsoy and speakers from Philip Morris and Mavi Jeans.

Deutsche Bank CEO Josef Ackermann to give a lecture in FMAN’s Executive Seminars


Sabancı University Faculty of Management has invited Deutsche Bank CEO Josef Ackermann to give a lecture on Monday, April 11, 2011 as part of the Executive Seminars series.  Josef Ackermann’s lecture is titled "The Global Financial System After The Crisis," and will take place at EDU 2137 between 3.30 pm and 5.00 pm.

All Sabancı University members are invited to the seminar.

Note: The lecture is in English only, and Turkish interpretation will not be available.

“Kendini Keşfet” photography contest concludes

The contest to choose the best photographs of the "Kendini Keşfet" initiatives implemented by Sabancı University Civic Involvement Projects for 11 years has concluded. 

With 71 votes, the winner was photograph number 37 taken during the "Kendini Keşfet" project in Ardahan in 2010.

This photograph will appear on the 2012 calendars of the university.

BIO

Daniel Kaufmann is a Senior Fellow in the Global Economy and Development Program at the Brookings Institution. He carries out policy analysis and applied research on economic development, governance, regulation and corruption around the world. Previously he served as a director at the World Bank Institute, where he pioneered new approaches to measure and analyze governance and corruption, helping countries formulate action programs. At the World Bank, Kaufmann also held senior positions focused on finance, regulation and anti-corruption, as well as on capacity building for Latin America. He also served as lead economist both in economies in transition as well as in the World Bank's research department, and earlier in his career was a senior economist in Africa. In the early nineties, Kaufmann was the first Chief of Mission of the World Bank to Ukraine, and then he held a visiting position at Harvard University.

Kaufmann is a Chilean national who received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics at Harvard, and a B.A. in Economics and Statistics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His blog on Governance is at www.thekaufmannpost.net

SPARKS Digital Media Student Exhibition at FASS Art Gallery

SPARKS is an attempt to examine the visual impulses and discoveries of experimental storytelling based on individual artist experience and visual awareness. The aim of this exhibit is not only to showcase complete final artwork, but to share the student ignited sparks of ideas, conceptual developments, processes, to expression of finalizing an artwork through digital media application.

Istanbul is the largest city in Turkey and is among the 25 largest urban areas in the world. History of Istanbul (Constantinople) can be traced back since the Byzantium period, The Roman Empire, The Byzantine Empire (Easterm Roman), The Latin Empire, The Ottoman Empire till the Republic of Turkey. Istanbul today is not only offering layers of history and cultural herritage but also a metropolitan with upbeat social and political ideology, exuberant lifestyle, modern and floushing contemporary art and design. The selected artworks demonstrate sparks of individual visual perception, blending the students’s critical responses to historical and cultural changes. The show also reflects the journey of immersed multi-perspective approach to knowledge acquisition. The use of digital media is ubiquitous with contemporary life and therefore a very important 'material' for emerging artists to consider. SPARKS explore the bridging languages to other disciplinary domains – communicating and coming to understand multiple approaches to contemporary creative technological practices.

At Sabancı University we provide a diverse learning environment for interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary exploration in the digital arts; to educate talented and intellectually engaged individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds; to provide an expansive pedagogical set of options to enable individuals to investigate innovative approaches to contemporary theory and practice; to facilitate exploration of the broad potentials of digital media as a ubiquitous tool across multiple domains; to foster individual inquiry, high level collaboration and team-based media production; and to graduate articulate individuals – SPARKS help student trigger to greater exposures of talents and creative thinkers who might become leaders in the field over the years ahead.
We hope to share the SPARKS to local and international audiences, academy and higher educational alliance to forge greater fusion in knowledge sharing and partnership in exchange activities.

Kendini Keşfet Projects have been going on for 11 years straight

Sabancı University Civic Involvement Projects (CIP) continue in summer and semester breaks with “Kendini Keşfet” projects conducted outside Istanbul.



Kendini Keşfet Projects have been going on since 2000 with great success and the participation of students from other universities.  Project locations include Mardin, Van, Şanlıurfa, Siirt, Diyarbakır Silvan, Kars-Sarıkamış, Erzurum, Giresun, İzmir-Dikili, Balıkesir-Ayvalık, Sinop, Ardahan and Hatay.

You can now vote for Kendini Keşfet photos, and the photo receiving the most votes will be printed in our 2012 calendars.

10 stars will appear under each Kendini Keşfet photo you click.  Mark between 1 and 10 stars to indicate which photo you like the least or the most.  You can rank each photo only once.

Employer Branding and Y Generation

Ready for a session on the unknown about employer branding and Y Generation, one of the hottest issues on the agenda lately?

Leading subject matter experts Brett Minchington and Evrim Kuran come together at a conference held by Sabancı Univer-sity EDU.

The Sabancı University Executive Development Unit (EDU) is holding a conference ti-tled Employer Branding & Y Generation, featuring keynote speakers Brett Minchington, an expert on employer branding, and Evrim Kuran, Turkey’s leading expert on Y Genera-tion.

The conference will be held on Friday, March 25, 2011 at the Sabancı University Sakıp Sabancı Museum – the Seed.  Issues to be covered by Brett Minchington include the con-cept of global employer branding and its meaning for Turkey, why employer branding is monitored by leadership, common misconceptions and truths about employer branding, a strategic approach to employer branding, the responsibility of leadership concerning em-ployer branding, and the creation of a healthy employer brand by using the Employer Branding Roadmap.

Evrim Kuran, the leading expert on Y Generation in Turkey, will speak on employer branding and Y Generation in Turkey, the Baby Boomers in the work environment, the X Generation versus the Y Generation, the possible contributions of the Y Generation to the corporation, understanding the Y Generation to bring resonance to the business, and the Y Generation hiring process.

Guest speaker at the conference will be Global Bilgi Human Resources Director Güldal Kaleli Bakır.
