You can send a message to your friends, classmates, colleagues and roommates a few weeks before the event to ask for their support and donation to the SU Scholarship Fund. An example letter is here.

2) You can donate to the SU Scholarship Fund to motivate your friends who join the marathon or walk.

• 10 donations of 60 TL each pay for a student’s meals for one month;

Sabancı University among the top 350 universities worldwide

Times Higher Education (THE) reveals 2015-2016 World University Rankings. Sabancı University was the 2nd best Turkish university among 1313 universities from 79 countries, and ascended from the top 351-400 to the top 301-350, becoming the only Turkish university to improve its standing over the previous year. 

  

Times Higher Education (THE) revealed the 2016-2017 World University Rankings. 7 more Turkish universities entered the rankings this year, bringing the total number of Turkish universities up to 18. 

1313 universities were evaluated for this year's rankings and 980 universities from 79 countries were on the list.

The Turkish universities and their respective brackets are: Koç University, 251st – 300th; Sabancı University, 301st-350th; Bilkent University, 351st – 400th; Atılım and Boğaziçi Universities, 401st-500th; ITU, 501st – 600th; Eastern Mediterranean, Hacettepe, Istanbul, IYTE, METU and TOBB Universities, 601st - 800th; 

and Anadolu, Ankara, Erciyes, Gazi, Marmara and Yıldız Technical Universities, 601st - 800th.

With respect to Turkish universities, Sabancı was the only university to improve its standing among the top three Turkish universities of last year, which were Koç, Sabancı and Bilkent.  In a ranking of 980 universities, the ascent of Sabancı University from the 351 to 400 range to the 301 to 350 range is an important development.

The fact that the number of Turkish universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) 2016-2017 World University Rankings is indicative of the importance placed by Turkish universities in the rankings and their growing strength in the global competitive environment.

The methodology of THE University Rankings assesses successful universities based on 13 performance indicators in teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook.

The scope and weight of these five categories are provided below:

Teaching: the learning environment (worth 30%)

Research: volume, income and reputation (worth 30%)

Citations: research influence (worth 30%)

Industry Income: innovation (worth 2.5%)

International Outlook: staff, students and research (worth 7.5%)

We've Welcomed New Faculty Members with Academic Orientation Program for 2016-2017 Academic Year

Academic Orientation Program of the new academic year has been organised on September 5th and 19th, 2016, on two days to welcome new faculty members.

Nihat Berker, Haluk Bal, Sondan Durukanoğlu Feyiz and Deans have participated in the program, where information necessary for the first days at SU were shared and faculty members had the chance to meet with different units of the university.

We would like to wish success to all faculty members at 2016-17 Academic Year.

Exam result code explanations are as follows:

SL (Satisfactory in the ELAE): indicates students who have received the required grade or above in the September 20th ELAE  and who have gained the right to start their faculty studies as Fall (regular) Freshman in the 2016-2017 Fall Semester.

EL: (Exempt from the ELAE): indicates students who are exempt from the September 20th ELAE. These students have already gained the right to start their faculty courses in the 2016-2017 Fall Semester.

UL (Unsatisfactory in the ELAE): indicates students who have not been able to obtain the required grade in the ELAE on the 20th September, 2016.

NA (Non-attendance): indicates students who did not attend the exam and is equivalent to a “UL” grade*.

Information about results will not be given out over the telephone to avoid any misunderstanding.

ELAE results are announced as letters of the alphabet. As stated in our regulations, no results are released as numeric values. Please click to see your result.

SL (Satisfactory in the ELAE) : This indicates those students who were successful in the 19th September English Assessment Exam  (Stage 1) and who have the right to take the English Assessment Exam  (Stage 2) on September 20th.

UL (Unsatisfactory in the ELAE): This indicates those students who were unsuccessful in the 19th September English Assessment Exam. Those who receive an unsatisfactory grade from the English Assessment Exam will be placed at an appropriate level in the 2016-2017 Foundation Development Year based on their exam results.

2016-2017 Academic Year Fall Term-Foundation Development Year Classes will start on Monday, 26th September 2016. The student class lists and class schedules will be posted on the School of Languages Directorate’s notice boards on Friday, 23th September 2016 at 3.00 pm

NA (Non-Attendance): Students who do not take the ELAE “NA” grade will be evaluated as an “UL” grade.

Those students who were successful in the 19th September English Assessment Exam  (Stage 1) and who have the right to take the English Assessment Exam  (Stage 2) on September 20th can check their exam location at the link below.

The results of the second stage will be announced on the external web page of Sabancı University through the SU web-page. These results will be announced on Thursday, September 22th at 9:00 pm.

Sabancı University among the top 450 universities worldwide

Recognized as Turkey's most entrepreneurial and innovative university once again, Sabancı ranked between 441th and 450th place in the QS World University Rankings of the most prestigious institutions in the world. 

According to a statement by QS, Sabancı was the only Turkish university in the QS World University Rankings that improved its research performance over the last year. Sabancı also advanced one place among Turkish universities in the rankings, coming second. 

Sabancı University ranked between 441th and 450th on the QS World University Rankings, one of the world's most prestigious university rankings. QS World University Rankings evaluates more than 900 universities worldwide on six indicators based on four criteria determined to be relevant to prospective students, namely research, teaching, employability and international outlook. 

Four of the indicators are based on “hard” data, and the remaining two on major global surveys – one of academics and another of employers. The weight of the indicators based on hard data are 20% for student-to-faculty ratio; 20% for citations per faculty; 5% for international faculty ratio and 5% for international student ratio.  The weight of the survey indicators are 40% academic reputation and 10% for employer reputation. 

Turkish universities featured in the top 500 of the QS World University Rankings 2016/17 were Bilkent University, Sabancı University, Koç University, Middle East Technical University and Boğaziçi University.

To the attention of students who will take the September 2016 ELAE Stage-1,

STAGE ONE EXAM DATE AND TIME.

Monday, September 19th, 2016 / 09:30 am – 11:00 pm

LOCATION: FENS G077

Important Reminder:

For the identification check to be done in time, we ask that students who will take the exam be at the exam hall half an hour before the exam starts and that they bring some official identification which includes their photograph (such as a passport, identification card, driver’s license) with them.

Students should also make sure that they bring a pencil, eraser and any other necessary pieces of equipment with them.

The results of the Stage 1 will be announced on the external web page of Sabancı University through the SU web-page. These results will be announced on Monday, September 19th at 9:00 pm.

Students who receive  unsatisfactory grade (UL) will be placed in the Foundation Development Year at either Route 1, Route 2 or Route 3.

Students who do not take the exam (NA) will be placed in the Foundation Development Year at Route 1.

Therefore, even if an ELAE candidate feels that their English level is not high enough, they are still advised to take Stage 1 and to answer as many questions as they can so that their English level can be measured accurately.

Students who will take stage 2:

  • Those international students who receive a satisfactory grade (SL grade) from ELAE Stage 1,
  •  Undergraduate students who wish to gain exemption from ENG 101-102

Exam location information: Information about which rooms students will take Stage 2 of the exam will be announced on our website on Monday, September 19th 2016, at 9 pm.

Students who receive less than 65% (UL) will be placed in the Foundation Development Year at either Route 3 or Route 4.

FENS and FASS receive Golden Owl Awards

A project implemented together by Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) and Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS) members won the “Golden Owl” award.

The interdisciplinary I-POST (Identifying Public Opinion Shapers in Turkey) project, conducted by Emre Hatipoğlu (FASS), Brooke Luetgert (FASS) and Yücel Saygın (FENS) as an exemplary output of the interdisciplinary system at Sabancı University, won the "Golden Owl Award" under the Academic Owl category.

About Owl Awards:

The Awards are given by the Turkish Researchers' Association to outstanding marketing and social research projects. The awards highlight the importance of the impact and added value research creates on business and decision making processes. Each year, more than one hundred projects apply for Owl Awards under nine different categories. A jury of 21 people, comprising academicians, researchers and business executives evaluate these projects.

About the Academic Owl Category:

The "Academic Owl Award" is given to methodologically advanced projects that include actionable findings, the findings of which have been published in indexed academic journals.
