Sabancı University Civic Involvement Projects Hatay “Discover Yourself” Semester Project brings together 18 volunteer university students with almost 200 students of the Hatay Altınözü İnönü Primary School and the Erdem Special Rehabilitation Center between January 31st and February 7th.
The focus of the Discover Yourself projects has been preserving cultural heritage for the last 2 years. This year’s project will help the youth gain a closer understanding of the multicultural land they are living in, and help younger students gain further awareness of the issue. Children in Hatay taking part in the project will attend workshops led by their brothers and sisters in university to understand the culture they live in and how they can preserve this heritage.
Also implemented as part of the Civic Involvement Projects for two years, the “Let’s Live Together” project aims to establish rapport and empathy between primary school students and children with special needs. This project will accompany the Discover Yourself project in Hatay.
Similar to the Discover Yourself projects of the last 11 years, children will engage in musical and artistic activities that improve their creativity, self-esteem and expression, and exercises designed to improve verbal and mathematical skills, all leading to an enriching experience.
75 university students from 14 universities, and the selected 18 students will spend their semester break with 200 primary school students in Hatay.
