Students who will take the 22nd January 2014 ELAE:
  • Students whose status is inactive and who have submitted petitions to School of Languages Directorate.
  • Students who are using their right to study for a second year at FDY and who have submitted petitions to School of Languages Directorate.
  • Graduate students who have received approval from their faculties,

For the identification check to be done in time, we ask that students who will take the exam be at the exam hall 15-20 min. before the exam starts and that they bring some official identification which includes their photograph (such as a passport, identification card, driver’s license) with them.

Students should also make sure that they bring a pencil, eraser and any other necessary pieces of equipment with them.

The results of the ELAE will be announced on the external web page of Sabancı University. The results will also be posted on the doors of the School of Languages building. These results will be announced on Thursday, January 23th at 9pm.

Graduate students will be informed of their ELAE results by their faculties.

** Inactive students who want to continue at FDY should give a petition to School of Languages Directorate by 24th of January at 5 pm. A "Placement Exam" will be given to these students on the 27th of January at 9 am.

From September 2013 on, Istanbul Policy Center hosts “Cinema–Politics Meetings” series that aims to bring together film directors and social scientists. The event enables a platform to discuss contemporary issues in politics as well as their reflection in Turkish cinema.

Graduate students will be accepted for the 2013-2014 Spring Semester leading to the Brand Practice Master's program.

Application for Brand Practice Master's Program Documents and Requirements:

1. On-Line Application Form:

Print-out of Completed Application Form should be added to the Application Package.

Applicants can either submit the application package including the required documents in person or can send via post to Student Resources.

2. Official Transcript: Sealed and taken from Student Resources/Affairs of the applicant's university indicating the courses and grades taken.

3. Two Letters of Recomendation: These should be either submitted online or posted in a sealed envelope. Sample letter

 5. Result for Graduate Program Entrance Exam : 

GRE or GMAT Score is not required for Brand Practice Master’s Degree program.

7. English Proficiency Exam Result: Any of the following English Proficiency Exam results baring the min. scores and which are within the validity period as indicated below. Photocopies are acceptable for application, but original copies should be submitted during admission.

TOEFL: Min. score 72 in Internet-based test, Min. score 198 in Computer-based test, Min. score 531 in Paper-based test   

IELTS: Min. score 4.0, KPDS: Min. score 60, ÜDS: Min. score 60, YDS:  Min. score 60

 The TOEFL and IELTS must have been taken no more than 2 years, KPDS and ÜDS must have been taken no more than 3 years prior to the application to Sabancı University

Applicants who do not submit a valid English Proficiency Exam score can only be admitted to graduate study on the condition of obtaining a satisfactory grade in Sabancı University’s own English Language Assessment Exam (ELAE). Those candidates who fail to attend or get a satisfactory score in the exam are obliged to attend and successfully complete a full course of English Language Preparation in order to continue with graduate courses. Failure to complete this course successfully will result in termination of enrollment at Sabancı University.

Graduates of Sabancı University are exempt from submitting an English Proficiency Exam score provided that they apply within two years following their graduation.

  • Applicants must complete their previous degree programs by the admission period at the latest.

Financial Support

A limited number of scholarships based on academic achievement are available in the form of partial or full tuition waivers and/or stipends.

Please note that those candidates who fail to submit a sufficient English proficiency exam score and thus attend the course of English Language Preparation will receive no scholarship until they successfully complete the course.

 

Deadline

January 31st, 2014 is the deadline for the early applications. For History, all applicants take a written exam, afterwards eligible candidates are invited for an interview via e-mail. For other programs, after an initial screening, eligible candidates are invited for an interview via e-mail.

Please note that applications from abroad will not be required to take the written exam; they will be interviewed via phone or net meeting (Skype, etc.) if they’re found eligible after the initial screening.

Warning! All the application documents become property of Sabancı University. 2013-2014 Spring Term Dormitory Fees and Payments

The dormitory fees for our undergraduate and graduate students in the 2013 - 2014 Academic Year Spring Semester are listed below, and are required to be paid to Akbank brunches with company code '815 under the ATS' (Subscription Payment System) between the dates 2014 January 20 and January 27. Under this system, you must provide first your student number (example 00012345), name and surname for access to the amount you are required to pay, which will then be collected in cash. The Artı Para accounts opened for payment of tuition fees in instalments cannot be used for dormitory fees.

Dormitories will be open through the semester break.

Research awards in memory of Hakan Orbay

Sabancı University School of Management establishes Article Awards in memory of Hakan Orbay.  Planned to be held every year, the Article Awards aim to encourage original work by young researchers in finance and microeconomics. This year’s application deadline is May 15, 2014.

Sabancı University School of Management establishes research awards in memory of faculty member Hakan Orbay, who passed away in 2011.

The awards are open to all theoretical and applied work in finance and microeconomics; however, of special interest are works in company theory, contract and incentive theory, applied and theoretical work in company financing and corporate governance, and research dedicated to understanding emerging markets.

The award is planned to be given every year.  This year’s application deadline is May 15, 2014.

Submissions will be assessed by a jury panel consisting of Doğuş University Faculty Member Benan Zeki Orbay, Sabancı University Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Members Eren İnci and İzak Atiyas, and Sabancı University School of Management Faculty Members Koray Deniz Şimşek, Melsa Ararat, Nakiye Boyacıgiller and Özgür Demirtaş.  The award will be presented a t a ceremony on September 15, 2014.

Eligibility criteria:

• Papers may be submitted in Turkish or English. 

• Only original papers that have not yet been published will be considered.  Papers submitted to a journal for assessment may be submitted to the award.

• Winners are expected to mention the award in the published versions of their papers, and present their papers at the award ceremony.

• Applicants must be younger than 40 years of age.

Fourth Dicle Koğacıoğlu Article Awards Given

Established by the Sabancı University Gender and Women’s Studies Forum in memory of academic and activist Dicle Koğacıoğlu, this year’s awards were presented on Saturday, December 28 at a ceremony following a student conference at the Minerva Palas in Karaköy.


First prize went to Pınar Ensari from Sabancı University, second prize to Nihan Bozok from Middle East Technical University (METU) and third prize to Ayşen Üstübici from Koç University.  The Honorable Mention, given for the first time this year, was awarded toMehtap Tosun from METU.


Established by the Sabancı University Gender and Women’s Studies Forum, the Dicle Koğacıoğlu Article Awards were presented on Saturday, December 28 at a ceremony following a student conference at the Minerva Palas.

The conference began with introductory remarks by Boğaziçi University Department of Sociology professor Ferhunde Özbay.  Özbay discussed the work of Dicle Koğacıoğlu and her contributions to academic studies. 

Following introductory remarks was a panel discussion moderated by Sabancı University Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences member Ayşe Öncü.  Speakers were first prize winner Pınar Ensari (Sabancı University) with “Like a Rescued Kurd”: Rethinking the Relationship of Kurdish Women in Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia with Education; second prize winner Nihan Bozok (METU) with Building Subjectivities As Stories Are Told: Mom, Dorm, Razor and third prize winner Ayşe Üstübici (Koç University) with Gender implications of irregular immigration: Risks, Integration(?), Legal Status and Access to Protection.  

In the second panel discussion moderated by Begüm Başdaş of Istanbul Bilgi University, select student essays were presented.  Mehtap Tosun (METU), winner of the Honorable Mention awarded for the first time this year, presented her essay A Cross Section of the Physical and Social Invisibility of Labor: The Informal Positioning of Women’s Labor in Dersim. Also presenting papers were Dilara Çalışkan (Sabancı University) with "Trans* Sex Worker Mothers and Their Daughters: The Role of Passing on Memory in the Struggle of the Trans* Community in Istanbul against Systematic Police Violence" and Ozan Soybakış (EHESS- Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales) with A Game of Hide and Seek in the Public Sphere: «Some Other» Men Suffering from Gender.

Dicle Koğacıoğlu Awards aim to support gender-focused studies on the society and culture in Turkey and to encourage young researchers.  Also attending the Dicle Koğacıoğlu Article Awards Ceremony were Dicle Koğacıoğlu’s family, friends, colleagues and students.
