We are deeply saddened by the loss of Prof. Dr. Ergun Özbudun, a highly valuable scientist and one of Türkiye's leading constitutional lawyers, who was deemed worthy of the Special Jury Prize in 2013 within the scope of the Sakıp Sabancı International Research Awards organized by our university.
Prof. Dr. Ergun Özbudun, one of the first people that come to mind in our country in the fields of the constitution and political science, contributed to the education of many students by carrying out his studies at Ankara, Bilkent, Boğaziçi, Istanbul, and Şehir universities. He also gave lectures internationally as a guest lecturer at the world's leading universities such as Chicago, Paris Sorbonne, Columbia, and Princeton, and successfully represented our country internationally as a member of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) and the Council of Europe Democracy Through Law (Venice) Commission. Ergun Özbudun, known as the 'Teacher of Teachers', also has many books on constitutional law and Turkish political life.
We will always remember Prof. Dr. Ergun Özbudun, a highly valuable scientist, who was deemed worthy of the Special Jury Prize at the 8th Sakıp Sabancı International Research Awards held in 2013, with love and respect for his support to the development of constitutional law in our country, as well as his contributions to the education of countless students in this field. May God have mercy on him! We extend our condolences to all his relatives and to the Turkish people.
