Sabancı University celebrates the Global Entrepreneurship Week in Istanbul and Vienna

Sabancı University will be holding a series of panel discussions as part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week, celebrated worldwide between November 15 and 20.  Events include the “Social Entrepreneurship Business Idea Contest” on November 15 and the 7th Competition Congress on November 16 at the Sabancı University campus, followed by a paper at a conference titled “How Do Hidden Champions Grow” in Vienna.

As part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week celebrated between November 15 and 20, 2011 and coordinated in Turkey Endeavor Turkey and TOBB Young Entrepreneurs Council, Sabancı University will be holding panel discussions, the 7th Competition Congress and the Social Entrepreneurship Business Idea Contest.  Among Sabancı University’s events are the Competition Congress on November 16, and participation to the “How Do Hidden Champions Grow” panel in Vienna on November 17.

Social entrepreneurs supported by contests

As part of the Entrepreneurship Week, the Social Entrepreneurship Business Idea Contest will be held at the Sabancı University campus in Tuzla on Monday, November 15 in partnership with Momento Advertising and Marketing.  Targeting university students, the Momento Entrepreneurship Project enables students to apply theoretical knowledge gained in university to real life, and help people in need at the same time.

A panel discussion will be held within the Social Entrepreneurship Business Idea Contest featuring Dilek Çetindamar, Sabancı University faculty member and Entrepreneur Development Program Director; Serra Titiz from Mikado Consulting; Serhat Görgün, General Manager of Inovent; Zeynep Dağlı from Momento; Zeynep Bahar, Sabancı University Civic Involvement Projects Director; and Senem Arsezen, President of the Sabancı University Young Entrepreneurs Club.

The Competition Congress will discuss “Growth, Competition and Innovation”

The 7th Competition Congress will be held on Wednesday, November 16 at the Istanbul Congress Center in partnership with TÜSİAD-Sabancı University Competition Forum and the Federation of Trade Associations (SEDEFED).  The subject will be Growth, Competition and Innovation.

Sabancı University will speak of “Hidden Champions” in Vienna


The last panel in the Global Entrepreneurship Week will be held on Thursday, November 17 in Vienna under the title “How Do Hidden Champions Grow.”  The panel will summarize the results of a study made on “Hidden Champions” - companies operating in Turkey that remain away from public view but are among the top three companies in their respective industries on an international level.  The panel constitutes the Turkish leg of a study covering 21 countries.  The subject will be under discussion on November 17 and 18.  Representing Turkey will be study director Professor Dilek Çetindamar and doctorate student Türkan Yosun from Sabancı University, and Özcan Sümer, the founder of Eko Tekstil, one of the companies included in the study.  Panel chair will be Nadia Zhexembayeva from the IEDC-Bled School of Management.  Also attending will be researchers and companies from Slovakia and Estonia.

Celebrated by 100 countries worldwide, the Global Entrepreneurship Week in Turkey will involve over 100 NGOs, public offices, municipalities, media companies and universities including Sabancı University.

The Global Entrepreneurship Week 2010 was celebrated in 38 provinces of Turkey with 178 events held featuring 206 stakeholders and 254 opinion leaders, reaching 18,768 participants.
