A member of Steering Committee for Council of Higher Education (YÖK) since April 2015, Hasan Mandal was elected as a member of the “Academia Europaea”. Number of academy members from Turkey became 20, including Hasan Mandal. Most Turkish representation at the academy is from Sabancı and Bilkent Universities, four members each.
At their meeting on 26 June, The Council of the Academia Europaea confirmed the election of new members to the four Classes of humanities; social and related sciences; exact sciences and life sciences.
Following an extensive peer evaluation process, a number of eminent international scholars from across the continent of Europe were invited to accept membership in 2016.

About Hasan Mandal
orn in Eskişehir Province of Turkey in 1965, Hasan Mandal graduated from METU Department of Metallurgical Engineering in 1987, and received his PhD from Newcastle University in 1992.
Mandal became an Assistant Professor in the Anadolu University Department of Ceramic Engineering in 1994. He assumed the title of Associate Professor in 1996, and Professor in 2001. He has authored over 125 studies, including 70 published in SCI-listed journals, and is holder of 6 international patents.
Professor Mandal has been the winner of several national and international awards including TÜBİTAK’s Science Award. He is the member of Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA), World Academy of Ceramics (WAC) and Academia Europaea.
Professor Mandal was the Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of Anadolu University between 2006-2010, and the Research and Graduate Policy Director and Vice President of Sabancı University between 2011-2015.
He was also Secretary General to the Engineering Deans Council of Turkey (MDK, 2006-2010), President to the Global Engineering Deans Council (GEDC, 2009-2010), 1st Deputy Director of the International Federation of Engineering Education Societies (IFEES, 2009-2011), Chair of the European Ceramic Society (ECerS, 2009-2011), Member of Board of Directors of GOSB Technopark and İnovent AŞ (2011-2015), Vice Chair of the Turkish National Platform for University-Industry Cooperation (2013-2015), and Chair of the Executive Committee of Technology Transfer Support Group of Turkey (TEMEG, 2012-2015).
Professor Mandal has been a Member of Executive Committee of the Higher Education Council since April 2015. He has also been representing the Higher Education Council of Turkey at the EU Bologna Follow-Up Group (BFUG) and European University Association (EUA). He is a Permanent Member of the Executive Committee of ECerS and the Honorary President of ECerS for 2017.
