Sabancı University will host the commencement of its 14th graduate class and 11th undergraduate class on Sunday, June 23, 2013.
Board of Trustees Chair Güler Sabancı and President A. Nihat Berker will be attending the commencement ceremony, where the awards established in honor of the late Gürsel Sönmez, a member of the Sabancı University faculty who passed away in 2006, will be given.
Live music by Ayhan Sicimoğlu will follow hat-tossing, and tweets under the
#sumezuniyet 2013 hashtag will be shown on screens around the cocktail area.
The Commencement Ceremony will be live broadcast at map.sabanciuniv.edu
Closing lecture by Daron Acemoğlu
As part of the commencement events, the Academic Year Closing Lecture will be given on Friday, June 21, 2013 by Daron Acemoğlu, Professor of Economics at MIT, a Nobel candidate and holder of the John Bates Clark Prize, known as the “Nobel for economists under 40,” and one of the Top 10 Cited Economists according to the IDEAS/RePEc research database.
In his lecture titled “Why Countries Fail” Daron Acemoğlu will discuss income disparity around the world. Acemoğlu will also explain the economic and political development in Turkey and the role of the well-educated youth in the development process.
Daron Acemoğlu will place a commemorative brick in the alumni wall after the lecture.
