Sabancı Holding affiliate Kordsa, a global leader in reinforcement technologies with its pioneering innovation and technologies, and Sabancı University, listed as the most entrepreneurial and innovative university in Turkey by the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, have joined together in a new project.
Composite Technologies Center of Excellence, conjointly established by Kordsa and Sabancı University, is positioned as a technology hub that brings together R&D, innovation and production under one roof in composite technology. The Directional Composites Through Manufacturing Innovation (DiCoMi) project, in which Composite Technologies Center of Excellence is involved, obtained 3 million Euro funding from the European Union.
As a reflection of its vision to reinforce life, Kordsa has embarked on a venture with Sabancı University. Kordsa and Sabancı University will carry out the project within the Composite Technologies Center of Excellence which has been officially qualified as a R&D Center by the Ministry and is a pioneer in Turkey and an important example in the world with its university-industry collaborative business model.
The Directional Composites Through Manufacturing Innovation (DiCoMi) project will be run by a joint consortium that includes Kordsa and Sabancı University is supported by the European Union. Within the scope of the project, which will strengthen Kordsa's global reinforcer position, system, software and material development will be carried out in order to produce composite materials with 3D printer technology. The DiCoMi project, which will last 2 years and will be given a contribution of 3 million euros, will enable domestic and foreign qualified human force to be exchanged within the EU member countries and in the associated non-EU countries. The DiCoMi project will be realized with the participation of 16 project partners from 11 countries under Horizon 2020 program.
About Composite Technologies Center of Excellence
Established conjointly by Kordsa and Sabancı University, the Composite Technologies Center of Excellence is a pioneering model which combines industry and university under the same roof. The Center serves stakeholders throughout the different stages of the R&D cycle in composite technologies depending on the customer's requirements, starting with R&D, continuing with prototyping, and ending in mass production. Researchers, designers, engineers, managers and staff of the production process, PhD students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty members and entrepreneurs from incubators, i.e. all relevant players co-exist in this ecosystem.
